Record-breaking Real Wine Fair: The Round-Up
The curtain has just come down on the most successful Real Wine Fair ever! On Sunday, 17th and Monday, 18th April 163 artisan growers from 16 countries around the world gathered to pour over 700 organic, biodynamic and natural wines to consumers, trade and members of the press at London’s Tobacco Dock in Wapping. With over 2,500 visitors, some coming from as far afield as Japan, Chile, South Africa and the USA, the attendance was 25% up on the previous fair.
The droves of hungry visitors were fed by street food stalls manned by some of London’s top restaurants including Galvin Bistrot de Luxe, Salt Yard and Ottolenghi, and those thirsty for knowledge attended seminars and masterclasses given by wine experts such as Alice Feiring, Jamie Goode and Wink Lorch.
The celebrations continued outside Tobacco Dock with numerous parties, gatherings and wine dinners including a traditional Georgian supra at Terroirs with toasts and polyphonic singing and the premiere of the movie: “Skin Contact: Development of an Orange Taste”.
Meanwhile the Real Wine Month has continued apace with around 300 restaurants, bars, retailers and wholesalers participating in a promotion featuring artisan wines by the glass the length and breadth of the United Kingdom (and Ireland).
Finally, Real Wine Goes North took place at Hawksmoor in Manchester on Tuesday, 26th April and proved to be a huge success with a fantastic turnout and plenty of positive feedback.
