Terroirs East Dulwich
Terroirs, East Dulwich, TED for short, opened its doors a few weeks ago on Lordship Lane. It is, in modern wine parlance, a wine bistro, a relaxed environment to eat well-sourced robust cuisine de terroir and wash it down with some darned tasty vino. TED is open Monday to Saturday 12.00 – 22.30 and Sunday 12.00 – 21.30.
The menu features excellent charcuterie including the pork & pistachio terrine and the rich oozy duck rillettes, lots of colourful small dishes to share including fried Jerusalem artichokes, parmesan and gremolata, snails on toast with garlic butter and lardo and heritage beetroot, pickled cranberries and goat curd, and a few more robust dishes such as beef shin, soft polenta and bone marrow and lamb chop, Lyonnaise chips, broccoli & anchovies. There is also usually a daily special - such as tartiflette and salad. The changing selection of cheeses comes from Androuet.
The wine list is extensive, focused on natural things, and superb value, with a range on tap including examples from Laurent Cazottes, Nicolas Reau and Remy Dufaitre. Other wines currently by the glass include Sepp Muster’s Styrian Opok white blend, Tom Lubbe’s (Matassa) skin-contact Marguerite from the Roussillon, and Elena Pantaleoni’s powerful Macchiona (2009), a beefy amalgam of Barbera and Bonarda. There is also the opportunity to take away via the wine shop @ 40% off the restaurant list price.
TED hosts regular gastronomic events – most recently a Loire Supper Club. In December, the week of 12th – 17th has been designated “Truffle Week”, with a variety of black and white truffle dishes served daily, alongside some delicious natural Piedmontese wines. Next year there will be fortnightly tastings from February on a variety of themes such as one to celebrate the vintage in Austria and another exploring the concept of terroir.
